Why care about seemingly trivial stuff like movement control?
My assumption is that many of the mechanisms that allow higher order intelligence to emerge in animals and humans might actually be related to what enables their brains to fulfill even the most basic things. Therefore it might be important to understand the latter in order to create the former.
